You don't tighten. You slacken it off to make the clutch lower.

just becuase its a track car doesnt mean you need a daft clutch, unless your pumping over 500bhp

but what your thinking of is a cerametalic clutch

I want a clutch that will both take abuse and improve gear change, and how do you know im not 'pumping' over 500bhp?

any clutch will take abuse if you dirve properly, on a track the clutch doesnt get abused as your nearly always driving at higher speed, no launching etc, clutches have nothing to do with the gear change

Whats that thing you press down when you change gear? Shortening the travel in the pedal will much reduce time between gear changes.

A paddle clutch wont wear out as quick as a standard item either.

I disagree.

A paddle clutch totally transformed a certain 1.6 on here, making the gearchanges better, faster and just making the car feel better.

That had 190bhp, not 'over 500'

I think what I need to do is buy a paddle clutch as said and lengthen/shorten the cable to reduce travel in the pedal. Il have a looky into it at some point.

Again, disagree.

Standard clutch will start to slip over time, especially on a track, at high revs, hard gearchanges, changing gear a lot in a short period... Paddle clutch will do none of those.

And of course it has something to do with the gearchanges, it's the one thing which allows you to change gear, it's the only link between engine and gearbox, a good clutch can make a good engine amazing.

Try driving a car with a paddle clutch before making wild claims

vxlgsi, a clutch makes a difference, obviously a sloppy box and linkage wont help, have you driven a car with an uprated pressure plate or a paddle clutch? or tried abusing a standard clutch on track all day?

yes plenty otherwise i would not have bothered to give advise
When did i say anything about using a standard clutch? im talking about the fact that a paddle clutch is just pointless, if you wanna do it properly you use a 7 1/4 twin plate.. otherwise just get an uprated LUK from your local motor factors. im just trying to help so dont everyone get funny with me.

got a standard clutch in our gte track car its done 74000 miles and has done over 500 miles of major track abuse with no problems.

why would you want a twin plate? make it hard to drive for what reason, i had 190bhp in a tb's car and a standard clutch died rapidly, didnt fancy an organic one, went for a paddle clutch, lasted well and felt great to drive with.

im not getting funny with you, he wanted advice on a clutch for his track car, he wanted something with instant responce, (obviously i think he didnt want to go down a twin plate route as thats just silly) whats more suited than a paddle clutch for his needs?
