hey,

so am driving into glasgow to go c spidy3 this mornin...

comin up towards the turn off for junction 15, sittin bout 3.5k revs at 65mph n the revs suddenly drop to 3k then back to 3.5k - n the car kinda jumped...thot to maself, thats strange, neva done that before...

anyways. came off the motorway and stops at the first set of light and the engine just went off and wouldn't start again

the oil light, battery light and yellow emission light came on...turned off the ignition n got the car to the side of the road...sat there for 2 hours waiting for ma pal to get the car back home and when he arrived the bastard started first time, eventhough i had tried it several times before...ragin

but then when we was puttin it on the back of the truck it cut out again at the top...

any ideas?

cheers

http://www.topbuzz.co.uk/info/fault_codes/fault_codes.htm
go to here it tell you how to do it
it helps by reading your ecu to tell you what fault codes have been read
so if any are stored it will tell you what is wrong

the same thing happened to my car it turned out to be the crank shaft sensor

from what i've been readin its gona be a 16 pin aldl plug on the car and pins 5 and 6 need to be bridged, the led next to the socket will then flash in a sequence which will identify the problem?

lol, well originally i assumed that was the light that would be flashing etc. but i read somewhere else on here that there is a orange led that flashes next to where you bridge the pins? guessin someone was just ripping the piss?

where bouts will the aldl plug be located? next to the fuse box at the drivers side inside the car?

been told that this could more than likely this problem could be down to the crank sensor being fault? does that sound bout rite?

u need to put the paper clip into terminals a@b on ur diagnostic plug (found in ur fuse box) then turn your ignition on and the codes will flash on your dash (eml will give the flashes) the first code is 12 which is telling u that there is a diagnostic tune happening then the codes will flash as follows:
the firsat flash indicates the first no example 1 flash then a pause will be no 1.
then the second flash example two flashes then a pause will be 2, so the code is 12. remember 12 is letting u no ur doing a diagnostic tune and it will cum up 3 times then if any fault codes r found they will cum up 3 times aswell so make sure u have a pen handy to jot the codes down.
hope this helps

hey, so got the car back to day with two of the fuel pump relays replaced - stil no difference - managed to get it home but then it wouldn't start after that...

am now either gona perform the paperclip test or get a diagnostics test done at a garage...the aldl plug i have is definately a 16pin...only problem is that i dont have a number 6 pin i only have number 5...how am i meant to bridge it?

also, jst back in from the car there and had it started 5 times in a row, what the heck is goin on?

apparently it aint the crank shaft sensor coz its sparkin

finally, now that i have the car back the first setting on my wipers aint workin, how can i fix this?

cheers

as said, same thing happened to mine but i continued to drive it after getting it to start back up. turns out my temperature sensor had broke and blew my head gasket

it's more than likely the crankshaft sensor.

I haven't read the whole thread so don't know if this has been mentioned, but, I'm 95% sure you can't do a paperclip test on a 12v!

yup, 100% no chance on the paperclip test, takin it down to garage 2moro to get diagnostics checked...what is a reasonable price to pay to get this done?

also, my first setting on my window wipers aint workin anymore - what could be the reason behind that?

Think Vauxhall charge £20 or £40, can't remember. Vauxhall will be most expensive, but some 'sole trader' garages have Tech2 machines which will be cheaper.

didnt realise vaux was as cheap as that...sure someone told me i'd be looking at 100 quid to get the diagnostics done by vaux

any idea on the wiper situation?

Wiper situation? No, haven't read the thread, sorry.

Vauxhall definitely shouldn't charge £100. That's over 1 hours labour I reckon. Definitely £20 or £40.
