Hi there new to the forum, just bought a 1.2 corsa yesterday, N Reg. It has a faint tapping sound constantly at idle and taps faster when revving, my dad thinks its a loose tappet or similar, does anyone know what it might be?

Have you checked the oil? If so changing it would be a good start.

ok thanks alot, i think that could be the problem then, as i too it for a quick drive and when i got back i could smell burning and oil level was rly low! will get back to you on this!

i have changed the oil and it is well topped up, but the tapping noise is still there. it is as if its part of something that spins? as it gets faster when i rev higher... anyone any ideas?

could be noisy lifters or tappets.When you changed the oil did you use engine flush? If you were running it with very little oil they could have picked up some shit from the crank case or sump and left some shit in them.
