Got the diff from my local Motorsport supplier, but a Tran-x diff is usually somewhere in the region of £520+vat.

Another event completed yesterday. Driving the car with the Tan-X Diff is amazing. The car feels so much more positive going into and through corners.

But anyway, we beat Abi in the Micra which is what I wanted to do. We were beating him on times all day, but then has engine decided to spit a piston out, and flatten a spark plug like I've never seen before!! So we ended up 24th overall and 3rd in class, but we were leading the class after stage 2 as it was wet!!

Car worked well and we didnt break anything, just need to fit an F13 box again now as the temporary F10 was horrible!!

What engine is it?1.4 16V?What work have you done to it?
Whats the power?

Sorry if u've already mentioned,i must of missed it if you have?

What yres you using seems to understeer a bit.
Youv'e built a cracking motor but it needs a gearkit you wont be disapointed transformed my car.

I use Kumho C03, but it was so greasy on the first stage, hence the understeer probably! After it dried out, they worked as well as they usually do! It was so greasy, that on SS2, Dave Jones in an Evo 8 ended up going sideways into a solid metal gate post at 70mph. His co-drivers door took the full impact and knocked him unconcious. 2 stages were cancelled due to the air ambulance being called, but luckily they were both ok in the end!!

The diff has made a hell of a difference but I have started saving no for a SCCR, just wish I'd bought my mates box off him (Julian Wilkes) but couldn't afford it at the time

Are you on 4 point harness's? I guess the lap harness's are mounted on the 2 eyelets in the seat rail? If you were running 5 point harness's where would you mount the eyelets?

Yes, i'm on 4 point harnesses, but we've mounted another 2 eyelets (1 on exhaust tunnel and 1 on door sill) for the lap straps, so if i was to go to 5 or 6 point, I can still use the eyelets under the seat.

Was out competing yesterday at Caerwent Military Training Ground in Wales and what a day!

First stage, we had a front right puncture about a mile into the stage, bugger, no spare! So we crawled through the rest of the 8 miles with the tyre hanging off and find ourselves lying 89th overall out of 90 and 7th in Class 1!! Good start to our championship charge...........Not.

Stage 2 went ok, Stage 3 we had a huge brown pants moment when they had shortened a very fast straight and we went flying past the 90 left, sideways in between 2 hedges, how we didn't hit anything god only knows!! We were back on track after that and slowly creeping back up through the order and getting class position back. Going into Stage 7 we had got back to 3rd in Class and only a few seconds behind Jamie Hales in the Orange Nova and thought with only 2 stages to go, we could get 2nd back quite easily.

But oh nooo, Rallying is never that simple and yet again, another puncture about a mile into stage 7, but this time we decide to stop and change it to avoid damaging the car. It turns out we pick up stage maximum for Stage 7, which dropped us sailing back down the order again to 6th in Class, and somewhere near the end of the leaderboard! Stage 8 was just a 'drive to the finish' stage really but i think we managed to get 5th in Class back again and got 57th!!!! (yes....57th) overall.

So here's the damage, 1st Puncture after driving 8 miles on it!!

So this Sunday coming, we're off to Pembrey in Wales for the Peter Lloyd Stages to tie up the championship. I've now got to 2nd overall but the guy leading (Steve Furzeland in an Impreza WRC!!) got enough points yesterday to win!! If I win the class on Sunday, i can match his points score, but he's got more class wins than me!! I'll be happy with second though, to an Impreza!!

Well, luckily the car is still in one piece, but other things can be said for the engine! 1st stage of the day on Sunday, about a mile in, we hit a load of standing water (which we were warned about) but wasn't aware of how deep it was!! It was rather deep, and the engine decided to suck in a load of it, and then throw 2 rods out of the block!!!

Anyway, pics as usual:

But on closer inspection.....



That was the first, most obvious hole, in which this piece of metal came from:



Then after removing the sump guard, i found this:







Not a small piece:



So, after removing the very watery oil(!), and the sump, all the damage was revealed:





2 snapped rods and 3 holes in the block!!

The next question was, is there any damage to my lovely, newly worked head??!!

The answer....................No!! (luckily)



How much water in the spark plugs??!!



Now with the head off, we could pull the pistons out, not pretty:

After removing the starter motor (which was also beaten to hell!!) you can see the damage at the back of the block, and where that large piece of metal came from!!!





And this is how she will be for a while:




So, i'm off to pick up my new engine tomorrow, managed to get one from a mate of mine. Luckily, this was the last event for this year, so there is no huge rush. Unfortunately, due to not finshing this event, I got pushed out of 2nd place into 3rd overall, but won the 1400 class.

I will keep updating this now as i do have a few things plans for the winter break!!
