im eyeing up a conversion from my 1.4 SOHC 8v to either a c16se or a x14xe. im intending to modify whichever engine i put in with headers, full exhaust, throttle body, chip, new inlet manifold (i already have a CAI).
what would be the best choice?

a c16se will be alot easier to fit - no need to change mounts, and should just bolt in and wiring will be the same or very simular

I can vouch for the ease of fitting the C16SE since I dropped one in my SRi a couple of months back. I didn't even have to change the engine loom (1.4 8v) 
Only issues I had were:
* Engine was from Astra and flywheel was significantly different from my 1.4 and I kept the gearbox so swapped the flywheels over (ie. 1.4 flywheel went onto the C16SE).
* Had to remove PAS unit, change pulleys, belt, engine mount and alternator mount to replace them with the 1.4 equivalents (no PAS though).
Other than that it was a breeze.

a ci16se would be the best bet.i had to do the same with mine as my engine came out of a astra.

no way!! 16v all the way! you wont regret it especialy when u decide to tune em up a bit... there all just as easy as one another to fit.

thanks everyone. i'm from New Zealand so finding a c16se is going to be hard but its either that or an x14xe if I can't find the c16se. the c16se was not sold in NZ after 1997.
will a x14xe go straight onto the existing engine mounts?

only thing with the X14XE engine is you have to do a lot to get a bit out of it.
i got one and its a bugger, i have spent roughly £1300 so far and it still needs cams, flywheel, powerbox and re-map gona cost me into 1500 for just them bits. so i decided to just save and get the c20let put in insted should be sent off to the shop in a few months
