considering it has the advantage of a Turbo, its not amazingly quick considering it was dead even with a barina SRi. must be the weight issue....

Lets not start a 106gti vs. vts, as it's pointless.

its not;

Saxo VTS is 120 bhp and 0-60 is 7.8
SRi is 123bhp and 8.0

yes they are exactly the same in every way, the fact the 106 figures are different on paper is the way it was tested

106gti hands down IMO

on a str8 road a 106gti will keep up with an XE corsa until around 70mph/80mph before it gets left but hit the twisties and a 106gti or saxo vts will kill the corsa.

there lighter then the 1.8 SRi and have about the same bhp dont they? the gti also has a gr8 little revvy engine. Alot of people underestimate these cars and the vts

not really. I have a 1.8 sri (well it belongs to the missus) I have also owned a 2 litre corsa and lots of other hothatches over the years.

the 106 gti doesnt keep up with a 2 litre corsa until 80mph at all. the corsa leaves it rather easily infact

up to 80 mph the corsa 1.8 sri is almost identical to a Vts or 106Gti. although the weight advantage that the saxo/106 has through the corners is a big advantage and on twisty roads the corsa would lose out.

but give me a 1.8 sri anyday over a tinny french box. for the fun factor the corsa puts a smile on my face, handles well from standard, EASILY outbrakes a 106/saxo and has a much more solid feel to it. I would rather have the knowledge that if I crashed I am likely to survive rather than be 0.7 seconds faster through a corner than the next car.....

Well he looked down at my silver chain
He said "I'll give you one dollar"
I said "you got to be jokin' man,
it was a present from me Mother"
He said "I like it, I want it,
I'll take it off your hands
And you'll be sorry you crossed me
You'd better understand that you're alone,
A long way from home!"

Ive never been in a 1.8 SRi so i wouldnt know m8 notice the IMO at the end

Ive never had a race with a 106gti but i have the VTS which is more or less identical in weight and has the same engine does it not? I have a C20XE Corsa, myself and many others i know or have spoke to with XE corsas will tell you the VTS keeps up until about 3rd gear before it starts to get left behind. I said 70/80 but its probably more like 60mph when it gets left

p.s i too would rather have the Corsa over the VTS\106gti but they are loads of fun around the twisties but i wouldnt want to crash in one.
