I am always cautious when an advert for a car says "full main dealer service history", for example with a mercedes, my mum took her 190E in to be serviced, and they wanted around £115 to change some spark plugs!

I said for instance because that is the type of people I personally associated with being unable to change brake pads.
That may have been right or wrong.

As I said, my point is 100% valid till all of the 'official' garages go out of business.

colin a guarentee you thats the truth, well down here it is

whats happning is the manufactures are buyin g out the dealersm then renting the sites back to them for a share of the profits, then cars and parts etc are sold cheaper to these dealers to retain more profit, which untimatley goes back to the manufacturer, either in rent or sales etc

im really not standing up for silly high bills etc, as i wouldnt pay them

just trying to make people realise its not our fault, all of the time

Lookers Liverpool scratched my wheels on two separate occasions then denied bouncing cars up the kerb at the front of the showroom, despite it being covered in rubber and a car bouncing up it while I was stood there complaining.

You don't need training courses or £10k diagnostic machines to look after a set of wheels.

Standards are very low.

Yes taking care of cars is a different matter from whether they are justified charging higher prices or not.

You should see Subarus prices!! £110 for a set of front brake pads and caliper bolts!! A major service can cost up to £600! Most I've ever paid is £424. An interim service costs me around £70 and I take my own oil. Servicing comes every 6 months. Cambelt changes are always expensive too!

Dealer has just lost the franchise so I don't know if I'm going to find a specialist now.

This is true..

BUT

The thousands of pounds spent on training go into areas that i would not let an independant garage touch with a 50 billion foot barge pole, for example, anything to do with the CAN network, Airbag or ABS related, in fact anything on the electrical side of things tbh.
The amount of cars i see every week that have been to independants and fucked up is unreal and the plain stupidity of some of them is scary...

But back to OJC's original post... Complain i wouldn't stand for that kind of behavior!

Just a little update here with regards to the brakes.

Rachel was told by this Vauxhall main dealership that her brake pads were worn 90% on the front 80% on the rear.

Last week a friend of her family was around who is a mechanic, so he goes out and checks the pads for her, takes the wheels off and guess what?

Front pads worn 50% rear pads worn 40%, said to her shes got a good year left on them

Seriously question EVERYTHING that Vauxhall tell you because it will be a load of absolute bollocks.

If she hadn't been in the know about how they try it on she would have wasted 215 quid on something that didn't need doing

lol I was in my local vauxhall dealer the other day when I was asked by a mate to get a price to do discs and pads on a 05 plate astra 1.6 SXi, vauxhall quoted 289.50 plus VAT. what a load of jokers

i understand peoples grievances if sum1 thinks they are being ripped off,but its wrong to tar every garage with the same brush. not every garage is out there to rip every customer off.

it costs 89p to make a large meat feast pizza at pizza hut. but they sell them for £14? do people complain about that? figure out that labour rate
