A few problems (of course)

Tapping nise from centre/rear of engine , speeds up with acceleration- tappets ?

Overheats with the fan NOT coming on ?

Running rich

Lack of power etc and bad idle

Hopefully this is all down to one thing , but any ideas ?

Cheers

The noise, will be the hydraulic tappets i wud ave thought - let it warm up *Has the engine been stood for awhile ??

Overheats - ave u checked that there isn't an air lock ? or the sensor is in at the bottom of the radiator ?

Lack of power and bad idle - Crappy tickover motor ? lack of power tho - is it timed up correctly ???

Has been stood quite some time yeah , but with 2 oil changes and a good 10 - 20 mins sitting at idle I thought it would go away ?

Sensor is in the rad because its brand new

Im using the coolant temp sensor from my 1.2 8v ?

How do I check for an air lock ?

New timing belt kit and water pump so all timed up properly

Seems like though its running rich its starved of fuel ? :S

The tappets - i wud ave thought 10 - 20 mins wud ave defo been long enough tbh =/

The rad sensor doesn't really matter i ran a 1.2 8v with my GSi engine swap * but it worked *

The way to check for water lock, is take the top off the header tank obviouslly with water in it - and take the sensor out :

Take it out until water starts to p!ss out and quickly replace it ..

The fuel thing im not quite sure on, the guy that will most probably know is Dave A - He helped me with my knock sensor problem wen i swapped my engine

i had this when i ran my new engine up for the 1st time. was an air lock causing it to run hot, and an air leak causing it to run poorly and hot!

best thing to do with an airlock is to turn the heating on inside the car and on hot run the car up with out the cap on the bottle too when the car is warm see if you have hot air coming in the car also give all the pipes a good squeeze can move anything thats being stubborn

run the car up to temp and remove the coolant tank cap, put the heaters on hot and fan setting 2 in the car (this allows the water to pass through the heater matrix to remove air-locks) . let the car run until it bubbles over, leave it bubble for around 20 secs (this gets all the air out of the system) leave for 2 mins then top it up with water.

dont worry if the fan cuts in (should do this at aboutt 98 degrees) then let the car cool down for at least 3 hours. top up the tank with water to the correct level.

take it for a drive, should be up to 90 degrees within 10 mins
