how can you test to see if distributor/soark plugs are working?

with the engine running pull one spark lead out, if the engine runs worst than put it back in, do it for the rest of them. If you pull one out and it doesnt change how the engine runs then go from there - change the spark plug first, if it doesnt make any different try trying the lead, then the dizzy.
