ive got 2 12 inch toxic subs and a 1600 watt toxic amp, not sure what the rms are and i no there not the best make you can get, iam using 4 gauge wiring for it all, but its just not as loud as they should be, i made my own sub box for them, i didnt make the box to a certain size, i just made the box so it fitted on my boot,
could the box be afecting the subs that much, as they could not be sealed properly and not the right size for the subs

it will be the box if its 2 big the subs will flap and sound carp if its too small thay will be muffled as it cant move the air
theres some free box software on the net but you will need the tech specs of the subs

Definately because of your box.
You need to know the model numbers of your subs. WinISD is good if you know all the T/S parameters of the sub, but you will probably be better off finding a recommended enclosure size on the manufacturers website or other websites.
DO NOT carry on using your current box! Boxes need to be designed correctly for the particular sub. The speaker (sub) uses the air resistance in the enclosure to support itself. If the box is too large, there will not be enough resistance and you will damage your sub
