unless.....you're not having power steering, in which case the top alternator bracket need bodgering, to double as the tensioner as well

No it doesnt
You need a lower mounting bracket, belt and tensioner for a 95 1.4 16 sri without PAS or powersteering

well, either way will do it really.
I would use an arm like robhayes has and just run a belt without a tensioner. much easier.
p.s I have a bracket you can use. you would just need to get a few washers and a bolt to fit it. then a belt from halfords thats the right length

how would fabricating something be easier than using factory parts?

I've got my engine on my stand and my throttle body was worse than yours. I decided to clean it as I thought the last thing I wanted was air passing through a mucky throttle body into my newly rebuilt engine!
Anyway the gunk didnt come off easily, and I ended up taking the butterfly off the spindle to clean it properly, I noticed the head of one of the screws was pretty f*cked, went 2 vauxhall 2 get some replacements to find out that you cant get the individual screws, you have to buy a new unit for £313! lol!

because factory parts will be expensive and hard to find 2nd hand. I have an irmsche bracket that is free and will do the job just fine. thats how its easier

i know being touragh is always a good thing... but how much longer are you goin to leave this engine on your garage floor?
get on with it dude
PS i done the altenator bracket the same way robhayes has done his but not even half a tidy looking ... then used a vw vento belt.... but to be honest it would be easyer to use the 1.4 non pas system like ROB B has there...
does rileysport have one of these for sale? he did the last time i was on... was a few months ago though....

you fit the bracket, set it half way, measure the length of belt you need using a fabric tape or bit of string, pop down halfords with the measurements.
