can someone please tell me the route the bonnet release cable takes?

Its easy enough to trace back tbh - I changed mine last week as it had stretched too far!
If you're changing it then tie a piece of string to one end and pull the whole lot through the bulkhead from the handle end; the string wil 1) show you where the cable goes and 2) you can use it to pull through the new cable
basically though the cable runs to the right of the engine bay, to the left of the battery though; along the bulkhead and through the grommit to the handle

easy peasy no pics needed
start by feeding it thru the big rubber gromit from footwell into engine bay
from engine bay - drivers side directly along bulk head to passenger side then curves round under battery tray all the way to slam panel on passenger side then along slam panel towards the centre where it clips onto the spring..

as above and then just cable tie it in place in a few spots round the route - especially on bulkhead
