My cars had 5 or 6 MOT's now and it keeps failing on the emissions

So far I've replaced the following:
Lambda
temp sensor
temp sendor
Thermostat
water pump
cam belt
fan switch
sump gasket
oil
oil filter
Taken the inlet apart and cleaned it

And still the emissions are way to high. Im thinking the piston rings have gone Any one got any idea of what it could be?

Would it be better to put my tb's on and get it all set up then try to get the MOT?

Thanks, Jay

the lambda is tight in there, coz as you say it should of failed on blowing exhaust otherwise. Its the carbon reading thats high which is why i thought it might be oil coming out the exhaust?

Yeah its a 2litre c20xe, what do you mean by messed with? its got a power cap on it and a pipercross viper.

A high carbon reading is either down to the burning of oil or the incomplete or un-burning of fuel.

Oil Related could be = faulty piston rings, valve stem seals, etc.

Fuel related could be = something as simple as a dodgy spark plug or HT lead. Or something like a dodgy ingition coil/distributor or maybe an injector (injector dribble). Anything causing a misfire basically. Even the timing on an engine being slightly out may mean that not all of the fuel is being unburnt.

Just hope that your car isn't ejecting unburnt fuel though, as you won't just have to sort out the component responsible for it but more than likely have to buy a new CAT too. As unburnt fuel through the exhaust + heat = mini explosions = smashed up CAT reacting plates.

How high was the Carbon over the upper legal limit?

Try doing a compression test also. Both dry and wet. Will give you a much better idea of where you should be looking.

i'll go and find the MOT failure certificate now and tell you the readings.

I hope that the cat is wrecked cost £300 last MOT and already spent that trying to get it through this year!!!!

have you had it checked to see if its running rich? do the plugs look black and sooty?

i would start with getting the fuelling checked to see if it is running too rich as without knowing that its down to guesswork.

on the air flow meter theres a little screw under a cap, im sure if you fiddle with this it has an effect on the emissions. Never adjusted it myself tho.

Apart from the fact a 2L corsa isn't on the emissions computer so should need all this.

High CO indicated it's running lame on a cylinder, I'd pull out the plugs and clean them up, make sure you give some abusebefore you get there and £10 of optimax and failing that hotter grade plugs.

Waht does the car idle at?

car idles at around 1000rpm.

i gave the plugs a good clean before the mot too. i'll have a look at the little adjuster screw thingy then.

I was running super unleaded in it when MOT was done.

really annoying me now as the mot ran out 4th february!

it was MOT'd at vauxhall twice, and now they're saying there's nothing they can do to fix it because its had an engine conversion and cant plug it onto tech2! They did say that they could change parts they think it might be until they got the right part, said it could run into thousands to fix no thanks

they told me to take it somewhere that specialises in modified cars basically.
