if you pull the fuel feed off the fuel pressure regulator inlet you can check to see if fuel is flowwing freely.

It could be that its blocked and not letting the correct amount of fule through.. but i tend to look into the simple things first
its at the rear on the right side of the fule tank you can see it just by looking under the car
looks like this but should be alot more dirty/corroded

Have you got a haynes ? it shows you great illistrations

round bit on the end. i change my filter once a year, only £3 and 10 mins. the clip that holds it on will be rusted to fook so you will probably snap the bolt when removing it. spray it with wd40 the day before you attempt the job.
*awaits post: how do i get petrol out of my eyes?*
check the pressure using a gauge on the fuel rail. most garages can do this.

will pour out a bit, just unclip it and make sure theres somthing there to catch the petrol.
or you could try snapping the fuel line trying to undo it (stupid design clips) spraying petrol in your face, mouth and eyes and then letting the petrol leak out all over the drive and generally making a mess like i did last time
