The 1400 head is different than a 1600 head.

The inlet and exhaust ports are smaller. If you put the 1400 head on the 1600, you'll end up with an X16XEL. L being lower output.

The lower output being due to the port sizes.

I'm sure this is correct, but i'm sure someone can confirm.

why swap just the block?

The head is more likely to be fucked.... You will be able to tell if a block is fecked!!!

Just fit a 1600 complete.... 20x less hassle! Can buy them for 150

550-650 if you pay to get it done

New bearings (crank/big ends etc)
Piston rings
Gasket set
And anything needed on the head.... rude not to do stem seals

depends on the condition of the engine and who does the conversion. most xe conversions are constantly going wrong, i fix on average 2-3 a week round my way (somehow every garage in the north east has my mobile number and ring me when a car comes in for a conversion )

but if it aint brok, why bother?

Does your car drink a lot of oil?

My Astra does, I really need to get a compression test done to find out whether the problem is to do with the valve stem oil seals or the piston rings (or both), but I CBA!

I haven't checked the oil on mine for about 2 months Checked the brake fluid and it was on min so i topped it up. Now me brakes are proper poor I'll have to check the pads again Changed them a month ago before the Bolton meet
