Ok Im just testing exchange out to see if its worth investing in it. Ive never used it before so my questions will probably seem stupid lol

Ive installed it and everything went fine, I think, with no errors. I can set up mail boxes for each user etc and they show in the users properties.

I set up a test account and set up outlook to use the exchange server option and entered the server name etc and it finished with no errors.

I think there must be some settings on the server that I have missed as how does it know where to send emails etc

Any help on what to check will be great.

Thanks, Mark

What do you mean by "How does it know where to send emails"?

I dont know really

But there must be more settings that I have missed. pop3, smtp etc?

I had a look on google and one site said something about port forwarding to the exchange server

IIRC the whole point using Exchange server with Outlook is that Outlook simply passes the data to the Exchange server, removing the need to use POP and SMTP.
That's why you choose Exchange and not POP/SMTP.

if ur ISP give you an SMTP feed for your e mail (which i very much doubt) then yes you can use Exchange no problem

i'm not sure how it would work without that tho

It would act as an SMTP server itself. Even Windows XP Pro can act as an SMTP server, it doesn't require an ISP's SMTP at all.

I got it working without doing anything lol

It must sort out all the settings itself does it? On that test account I set up, I thought they hadnt been sent but they went. I really cant believe that its that simple?

You use the Exchange Pop3 connector (download from MS). Exchange logs into a single pop3 account at your ISP (usually a catch-all) and distributes to the users...
