My sub is 180mm deep in total so I need to make a box that is a minimum of 180mm deep internally for it to be able to physically fit in the box BUT is there a minimum distance to have between the subs magnet and internal face of the box in order for the sub to perform at its best? Presume there needs to be say, 50mm of clear space between which would make the total internal depth of my box 230mm. I allready know the volume of the enclosure that I need BTW, its just a matter of making it as slim as I can get away with 
Does it vary depending on the sub?

iirc its 3" from the rear of the sub to the box.
