I've got 4 6x9's (JBL and Infinity) which are running on a JBL amp (400w)

They were definitely louder when not amped (the quality is better amped though)

Why is this? I am putting them back upto the headunit and using that amp for a sub anyway now, just interested why they were quieter amped!

is that a 2 ch or 4 channel amp? and where did you have the gains set?

sounds like you were running them 2 on each channel?

A distorted sound appears to be louder and damages your hears more...
(leaves the ringing sound)
A Headunit is around 12wrms. Mayb turn the amp gains up a little if they aren't already on full
