I know this may seem like a silly question but

Can anybody tell me what torque is?
Looking thru my dyno sheets of the corsa-

BHP-170.03bhp
Torque- 137

A guy on another site his car is 163bhp with 300 torque

Im a bit confused!

Torque is a measure of the actual twisting force produced by the engine, theres a few different ways its measured, eg pounds feet (lbs ft) or newton metres (NM) etc. You can convert torque into bhp using

(Torque x Engine speed) / 5,252 = Horsepower

Torque is the turning force, the actual amount of force the engine puts into turning the wheels, the BHP is the rate that the torque is produced. i.e. a car with 100bhp and 100lbft will be slower than a car with 130bhp and 100lbft because the 130bhp car is able to produce the torque at a faster rate........

Also acceleration is TORQUE driven (as opposed to revs)... BHP is maintained maximum power for a high speed cruise

basically torque is ya accleration and BHP is top end!! the more torque the better the pulling power!! The more power the better top end !! But you do need the BHP to get the torque!!

no thats not true, if you have little torque you will have less top end...... in theory you need the torque to get the bhp lol!

doesnt work

my peak torque was 123@4533rpm
peak calculated power 130@6733rpm

123(torque)x6733(enginespeed)/5252= 157bhp?!?!

somethin not right there

The 300 could be Nm......

So that would make it around 220 lb/ft.

Still a lot of torque compared to BHP.

right i'm with you now, so at 4533rpm, my power is 106bhp, which works out right on the graph.....

shame you cant work out peak power though....
