anywhere on the car, a bolt or somthing, the whole car is earth so it doesn't neccasarily have to go into the engine bay.

does it have to be bare metal or can it be on paint mate?

nah, you'll need to just scrape the paint away, then screw the wire down onto the panel of the car.
