when lights are on main beam no probs but when just side lights are on if i brake they flash. whats this all about?

only thing I can think of is a short when you break, that's interrupting the power to the sidelights and making them flash. Pretty strange. Frayed insulation somewhere? Perhaps check the wiring to the brake lights and see if something is shorting out when you break. Might be worth taking to an auto electrician.

Unless you've got a very low battery and the brake lights are sucking the power out making the side lights go off, sounds unlikely though coz bulbs are the same power.
