Standard 2 litre 16v is 156bhp, far cheaper to install and its a standard engine so no reliability problems.

go down the throttle body route. SBD kits have good reputation. should see a similar if not bigger output than turbo conversion, cost less too

The cheapest method is to get a spacer plate from courtney to lower CR.
Then you can get a turbo and manifold from Brazil for £600
Then you use a MF2 aquamist 5th injector controller. You'd be looking at a limit of about 160-170BHP to retain reliablity.
(You'd also need an oil cooler, oil filter relocator kit, bit IC and some hoses.)

throttle bodies = better reliability, cheaper, big power gains and sound awesome

LETs are no more unreliable than any other XE engine. Its practically the same thing.
Turbos have a myth surrounding reliablilty to alot of people called kevin whackin boost up without carrying out basic needs like cooling and fuelling etc etc. Hence they go bang or melt.
LET is cheaper than you think. An XE is cheaper but then you have to add £1k+ for TB's To which you will only see a similar figure in BHP than you would from a std turbo.
Not saying TBs are bad, they have a MUCH smoother power curve/delivery and sound amazing. Makes your engine bay look amazing too
Depends what routes you wanted to persue.
PLUS listen the /\ craig he had a turbo 1.4 IIRC

the turbo conversion does not seem particularly complicated, what happens over ecu though? a remap?
