Just got back from agreeing a deal with a guy for his 106 gti 1998 S reg, China Blue, Leather interior, etc.

I couldn't drive it as I've fucked up my ankle, but my dad drove it with me as passenger and it seemed to pull pretty well. It was weird, it felt fast, but not really fast? Did a 0-60 test and got around 7.5 which is what is claimed and it just keeps pulling all the way to about 6500 rpm.

A couple of times it was accelerating and it was like 'shit we're doing over a ton!'

I'm yet to drive it though, pick it up next week - though I'm sure SXI Power could have it in a race joke

Will be nice to have a bit more power, but not looking forward to the pug reliability.

Sxi is now for sale though I will miss it, I love that car and for what it is It's suprisingly nippy.

The 2.0 16v is only as quick as a VTS/GTI.

Turbo will hit a ton in about 14, whereas 2.0 16v will do it in about 20/21.

hmm how about a 20xe corsa will do 0-100 in around 16-18 secs
pug 206 GTi 180 does it in over 21 secs

and VTS is not as quick as an XE, might be slightly behind up the quarter mile but after that 20XE will leave it beind...trust me i love VTS trying it on

The Corsa isn't Broken? Whats this about?

Pics on my phone but they're shit - will get proper pics when I pick it up.

As for 2.0 16v being same as Gti / Vts... after being out in the Gti (never been in a 2.0 16v though) It felt quick, but I could see how higher up the gears something like a 2.0 16v with all the torque would start leaving you behind, though it'll be a laugh trying to keep up and possibly beating some xe's in shorter distance races.

Steve, yeh the prob was I wasn't driving and my dad was only taking it to 5500 rpm sometimes close to 6k before changing gear...

Jr I see what you mean about gear box heard about a lot of them before and the gear selection isn't as nice as my corsa imo... dad had a bit of trouble getting it into 2nd once, and also the foot well is cramped ...

but can't wait till my foot is a bit better and I can drive it

Scary thing is - I did insurance quotes for adrian flux (my current insurer) online on 1998 106 gti's around this mileage and was getting about 1000 pound quotes...

I'm just worried now when I ring up and ask them to move it from my corsa to the pug they're gonna laugh and go 1500 quid or something silly...

Well I haven't taken delivery of the car yet, but until today not known the exact details of it... So just been doing general quotes with 1998 gti's...

Thing is my original plan was to get one around march (when I renew) then I'll be 20 and have another years NCB...

but atm I'm 19 (20 on 22nd so not much longer lol)

If I change cars, (but stay with insurer) i.e. just pay an extra 150 quid on top of what I do now, will I still get my NCB?
