What's the deal with online games on HL2? Are they just the usual deathmatches, team deathmatches, ctf's etc?

Or has everybody just been playing the single player?

on scoobynet people are saying that each time you want to play the game you have to login over the net - is this what everyone else is experiencing?

Seth, dont wanna piss on your fire at all, but the 50 series Geforce cards were... well... awful. I havent had any experience with them, but report back and tell me how well it works!!
BTW, Half Life 2 is gonna trounce all over GTA:SA in the game of the year awards.

AMD Athlon 2200XP (1800mhz)
524MB DDR 333mhz RAM
Geforce 4 Ti4800 Overclocked
Seagate Barracuda 120GB 7200rpm HDD

And it runs pretty good, with all effects displayed. Im scared to max it out though, im afraid i might cry if i cant run it higher than it is

I have to agree, the recent big releases (GTA:SA, Halo 2, PES4) will not be able to touch HL2. I haven't played it yet, but I've read plenty of reviews, seen plenty of vids and screenies, and it's like a whole other generation ahead of anything else. It's frightening really.

I can't get the fucker to work

I get a Visual C++ runtime error for the .exe when it's run from steam.

I have seen this error from people before but for all sorts of other programs. I can't find a soloution. I have reinstalled, rolled back drivers, updated drivers, updated chipset drivers, updated and rolled back direct x, reduced AGP size. I have tried all soloutions suguested by people with similar problems but not with this game. I don't know what else to try and wondering if I have a dodgy copy. Can anyone tell me the size of their hl2.exe in both the half life directory and the counter strike source dir. Mine is 1,956 KB. They only thing I thought of was I installed the game initially fromthe DVD burner rather than the ROM. Fuck knows it's pissing me off

Al, what does the error say exactly? If you've seen it before, chances are other people will as well, so what I'd do is copy the error text into google and hit search. With a bit of luck you'll find a forum where someone has had the same problem, and someone else will have offered a solution.

Good luck!

Sorry to hear that Allan. Anyway, my hl2.exe fle is 1.91mb. Couldnt find the Counterstrike Source dir. All i can think of is to uninstall Steam and start again, i had problems with Steam to begin with, since i had it for a while before i got HL2 today. Also,i thought there was something wrong with my CD key, but i was putting in too many digits Good luck.

Thats the thing the visual C++ error is the same for others but for different programs.

Runtime error!
C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\<account>\hl.exe has caused an error
abnormal program termination

I have updated library files. I'm gonna do a fresh re-install tonight and maybe take it to a mates and try on his to see if it's not my copy. I have had games before in the past that have had missing files on the disc.

Someone has been having the same trouble as you. Towards the end of the page, someone says they had this problem with DirectX 9C. They uninstalled this and installed 9.0 and everything was fine....hope this helps

Done that Dirext X was rolled back to 9.0b, didn't work. I don't have a via chipset either. I have a nvidia n-force2. I have updated this driver too. This is the most annoying error I have seen. There are several other people who still can't get a soloution. It seems certain drivers only help a few. Theres different soloutions for each case.
