If you put an axle stand where the jacking point is... how do you jack the car up?

Jack the car up on the jacking point and put the axle stand beside the jack - there is enough room. Or you can jack the car off of the front crossmember and put two axle stands where the chassis legs are welded to the crossmember if you need a lot of height, for say, getting an engine out...

Correct, however I have it on good authority that you're not the best person to advise on axle stands

Just jack it up straight onto the floorpan or side sill. If it bends, no biggie.
