Hi, will be puttiing 2.0 16v in a corsa b soon, and really like the idea of quick rack steering.

Was wondering is there anyway of modding a std rack to become a quick rack, by changing the gears etc??

Just a thought

a power steering rack thats not connected will result in very heavy steering.

i was going to install a powering steering rack when i installed my c16xe but just adding something else that could go wrong...

maybe i will do it in the future... i have the pump here just need the rack and the resiovor(sp)

I put one in my nova a few months ago, cost me £89 delivered from quailfe, it's gone from 4 to a 2.5 lock to lock turn rate, but below abotu 20mph the steering get quite heavy and dry steering is a mission, but you just eat road in it now, makes it much better, esp for a fast car too, I found I was having to turn the wheel too much and that was slowing me down, quickrack has transfromed it now. Esp good fun in the wet to make the back step out cause I can react faster can hoon around more now
Generally PAS rack normally has a faster lock to lock.
And you can have a qwikrack and PAS, You put a qwikrack in and then get hold a a EPAS (electronic power assisted steering) Which replaces the steering column for one wiht an electic motor in, then you need the wiring and the ecu that it uses, I thin kit's abotu £180 to do that. This set up is lighter there's less clutter in the engine bay. Hope that helps.

Oh lastly, it took me 3hrs to remove the rack, put the rack and pinion in and have it back on ready to go, it's not very difficult at all, justhave lots of grease handy.

thanks everybody!!

The price of £89, is that just the rack and pinion (which is then fitted to the std casing etc?)

because the corsa im goint to be putting the c20xe in will be a base model (no pas)

So will it be too heavy for round town (car parks etc? (not really a bad thing, just means u r less likely to turn on the spot and ware the tyres lol)

Thing is im building a fun car, enough power, polly bushes all round and a good suspensuion setup and the quick rack seems like a good idea. (especially when the engines out, fitted in minutes!) but i am trying to keep costs sensible, so the ellectric pas quickrack is a bit pricey at £180

I noticed above you were saying that you can fit a quick-rack with EPS coloumn. Well I Have a 2000 Corsa GLS with EPS steering and the ratio is approx 2.5 turns as standard, so not much point in a quickrack if it has the same ratio- just use the std EPS rack...

Yeah the £89 was for the rack and pinion bit delivered.
If the EPAS rack is 2.5 lock to lock that's pretty handy.
I can't comment on how bad it is as I've never had the chance ot find out, although on a std corsa rack on a frined 2L tb's corsa I built it was heavy at stand still so I can only imagine how bad that would be, also my nova is about 750-700kgs and I find that bit heavy, sort of feels like you've got soft tyres if you know the feeling.

yeah should be ok when moving, just turning/parking could be difficult.
Think i will go for it, if its too bad i can always put std rack back in.

sorry to drag up an old post.......

steering rack on my 1.2ls without epas (coxe conversion) is knocking......

Is it possible to fit a EPAS steering rack with the non EPAS column as a cheap way of reducing the steering lock to lock?

Thanks

I know for a fact that andy wont wanna fit a coloum too as this is onlt his run around.

An EPAS rack is shorter than a non PAS rack so surely if you swap them over you will have a shorter lock-to-lock. Is that the case?

You ever tried to use a power rack with steering fluid in it?

Heavy as fuck! Especially with a big lump sat on the wheels.

Thanks for the reply dave

yes, a standard 1.2 16v epas rack will go on a manual steering column, direct fit.
