and before any smart arses tell me its a 747-400, its in fact one of a few 747-200's which were converted for a longer upper deck. Called the 747-200SUD

Thats a 747-400 although i surmise the upper deck has been lengthened somewhat.

its kinda funny to me, you dont realise how big that tail fin is until your inside it climbing up the bugga like i was yesterday. went as far as i could go, and i could barely make out my safety man at the bottom

we use em on our 767's and DC-10 too! LOL not a bad engine to work on!

u ever seen that wierd ER 747, or is it SO? cant remember which but its really really short but still with same size upper deck, looks really really strange! Saw one taxi past the aircraft i was wokring on last week! Never seen one b4!

You mean the 747SP. Flew on one from Singapore to Darwin to Cairns with qantas. weirdest lookin plane, but very impressive nonetheless. There are only a handful still flying, and even those are for various states and privately owned. Qantas scrapped theirs or sold them on in 2001/2002. Such a shame to see them go. It was a truly impressive aircraft. During flight testing, they took one up to 40000ft and entered a shallow dive and reached a speed of 0.92mach!!! close to the speed of sound!! this is due to its light weight, RR engines and swept back wings.

yeah they are on lots of aircraft, but these specific ones are Gen1 engines, and those found on the 767, MD11 are far more advanced. The DC10-10 uses an almost identical engine though, and the DC10-40 got the more recent CF6 engines. The GE90 engines that have been developed now though are amazing. the engine designed for the 777-200LR broke a power record of 102,000lbs thrst!!

yeah i believe that saudi still have one in service, and another is in service with the saudi government. Still flown by Iran Air, South African Airways and Syrian Air. The rest are middle eastern governments like Qatar and the UAE. Pratt & Whitney have one for engine tests at the moment too

LOL we had some DC-10's come from te deseret a few years back were in our hangar for about 3 months! came in not much better than the 74 above but went out like new, or as best u can get a 10! LOL

lol, only thing is that the747sp you see there has no avionics in the cockpit or engines under the wings. Saddam hid them somewhere about 3 years ago in storage. you wouldnt believe the amount of money thats going to be poured into Iraqi Airways again. I hope they recover and fly the SP.

hoepfully so a lot of work would be required to get that airworthy again though, although it is much cheaper labour wise etc in that part of the world though! some euorpean ailines have been known send their aicraft to arab countires for work it saves money even with the added fuel costs etc

as above, that a/c is gonna be in a shite condition. i certainly wouldnt like to work on it. just noticed teh fwd freight door seems a lot further back than where it is on a 747-400
