Ive heard lots of good things bout the potential of tuning the 1.4 16v Ecotech engine in a corsa sport.
Ive already got a Pipercross induction air filter with cold air feed and an exhaust back box but was wondering what are the other cheapest and best engine mods that will get more speed and/or acceleration out of it. Cheers. Mike

nothing really cheap....

(the following is a maxpower type reply

Aye min.... fit some decent plugs n leads.... 'chip it n'youll be seing about 110bhp )

First off - dont get an induction kit... unless you can fabricate a 'cool box' or some shit for it.... They just hoover up the hot air in the engine bay.... and cold air feeds are a nuisence

A decent exhaust manifold, de-cat and 2 1/4" exhaust will help....

exhaust manifolds....

SBD - expensive but good, good mid range gains
PMC - cheap and great top end

next step, some mild cams (256 degree) and a UNICHIP. This will see you anywhere around 110-115bhp

After this.... its the inlet manifold - go for

Mantzel for top end (need rev limit increased, so ARP rod bolts too)
Lexmaul for mid range
Velos if your on a budget

and TB's if your a star

get that all mapped up with some wilder cams (need new pistons for valve clearence at this point ) and your looking at around 130-135 maybe 140bhp

more gains if you get the inlet/exhaust ports matched to the new items to help air flow etc.... headwork is an option too, as is boring it out

but by this point you prob realise that it would have been cheaper to fit a c/x 16xe!! and mildly tune that

there are heaps round for cheap these days d/t the amount of 2.0 conversions being done

Its ecotec btw

Also, do not be tempted by an off the shelve chip. They come premapped and just assume your car needs more fuel.

I had a superchip fitted to my 1.4 16v, i then went down the UNICHIP route.... no comparison!!! The superchip was a farce, it was over fueling my car like mad!

Anyway.... the cheapest and easiest thing to do..... just keep the engine in good nick. Reg oil/filter/plug changes etc

tuning a 1.4/1.6 is more fun than banging a 2.0xe in! hence hwy i chose to tune my 1.4 and now my 1.6. and it will be nice to see jr keep with a 20xe up the 1/4!!! hope he does it

Inlet manifold for £450 or 2l transplant.
If you want to spend loads of money though you could turbo it, you can even by the parts one by one...... to reach 197bhp!
Velos have got their development engine for sale for £3000, putting out same power as a 2.0l turbo for a similar price.

i can understand wanting to tune a 1.4 etc... i did...

115bhp and 102 lb/ft

but with experience... i should have really just popped a 1.6 16v in.... its soooo easy to do, and its a much better starting block.

No replacement for displacement n'all that shit

Jr - if we meet again, and both our corsa's are running i wouldnt mind a shooty of what my old 1.4 might have been if i didnt get bored and sell it

only to buy the green one two weeks later
