i got a problem getting into second and forth gears? think it might be the gearlinkage...

its not the box, but there's a click with a bit of resistance as i push it into second and sometimes forth.

The noise comes from under the gearlever, had the cover off and it seems to be coming from in front of the gearlever, the bit that goes through the bulk head.

does it with the engine off and on.

where is the gearlinkage? and i think i've read that its a common problem for it to fall off oy sumin?

also thought about adjusting the clutch, will try that too.

can't get at the cable though with all the crap they put in the engine bay...

2nd and 4th

weird combination to lose
hmmmmm
hang on it may have slipped inside itself
not a hard fix u will need a 13mm socket and a helper
u need to loosen the clamp on the linkage rod and move it apart a little and tighten it up again
this should cure it

be warned thou get it wrong and you could loose other gears its very sensive set up

cheers mate.

i can still get in the gears, its just stiff and it clicks/clonks.

feels rough in the hand when pulling it down into 2nd and 4th.

is the linkage in front of the gearlever then - can i get at it from the cabin? or do i have to have me head under the bonnet?

Have you put a 2.0 in? I had the same problem with mine, when I tried to put it in 2nd and 4th the gear linkage catched on the steering rack, so I had to bend the top of the linkage back so I could engage the gears. get someone to try engaging all the gears while your underneath watching the linkage move, to check if its hitting anything.
Hope this helps

Its a doddle to set up, you just need two pins (drills, allen keys etc), one goes in the selector on the box (you might need to take the battery off) and one goes in the lever itself, there is a hole on the passenger side of the lever that lines up with one in the base.

Put it in neutral, loosen off the linkage under car, put boths pins in then tighten it all up very tight.

yeah where the linkage pivots, theres a few bushes and seals, you can replace them all, from vaux, cost me about 12 quid and sorted the problem

Its not hard to adjust the linkage, as easy as CorsaDave said, try and do it with someone in the car to check it, its a pain doing it on ur own!

I'd consider using pins, mine slipped by a tiny amount and I lost 2nd and reverse, its a very fine line between getting it right and wrong.

It took a few attempts to get mine back cos the length is critical with the f20 box, I had to keep extending it to get 2nd and 4th.
