ok Ive got everything up and running, or so I thought I had!!! When Ive added new users and log on through a client machine it creates a set of files for the user on the local machine, and if you log on another machine you have to go through all the crap of setting up email account and everything. Surely there is a way of getting these files saved on the server somewhere??

Make a directory such as Rprof and share it out.

Then in user manager, under the relevant users properties click the profile tab. Then put in the folliwng in the Roaming profile box.

\\servername\roamingprofilesharename\%username%

yeah a roaming profiles setup, when the client logs onto the server, it downloads its user area onto the client I believe, then once the session is over and the client loggs off, it will save the changes/new profile to the server again.

There are better ways of doing this, like having the storage completely remote so you only transfer files over the network that you need to open.

another question for you to 2 experts to fight over..... how do you get stop multiple log ins?? I tried it just out of interest and it let me sign in twice at 2 different machines

probably a policy sumwhere have a look in the security policy im not too familiar with the policies of 2003 as there are more than in 2000! should be obvious with a scout around the policies tho

Email wont be included as standard within the roaming profile if running outlook or outlook express, as there stored within the Local Settings folder within the profile (anything in there isn't copied)

You need to edit the registry to chanmge the store location, this can be done in the logon script (if you've enabled one) but you need to program your own EXE which edits the registry, as if you just call a .REG file to do it, it will ask the user for confirmation & if there a regular user, there unable to edit the system registry.

Another way is to create a standard profile set, which you then backup somewhere. When you create a user, you just copy the profile set in the users profile folder & the settings are already set. I do this one on my network, and is quite similiar to the way the CC3 network works, as we can edit the master profile which is replicated across all users.

Youve totally lost me there Paul

When you set up an outlook mail account one of the options is Microsoft exchange server. You cant incorporate this in any way to achive what I want can you??

no as you need to have running microsoft exchange server, and then if you set it up on your 2k3 server box, express won't work with POP3 accounts!

Just to note though, if you're running Exchange 2003 you can use Outlook Express to access the mailboxes, but you obviously wont get the full functionality as you would with Outlook 2003

I havnt got exchange 2003 and from what Ive seen its pretty pricey so I think I'll give pauls way a shot first and hopefully that will say me some money

Exchange 2003 isn't as good as exchange 2000 IMO

to use pop3 mail boxes though (like from your isp), then you will need some sort of plugin, but unsure of what one!

I don't know Paul, initial impressions are pretty good to me TBH

Could you not create standard mailboxes and access them with OE, and use the POP3 connector to retrieve mail for the domain then split it?
