VIPER X and BMC CDA costs 250£?

How is this possible?

mine cost £30 from local shop, same for reducer.

it did help the car yeah, i got some aluminiumised extractor fan ducting from b&q, with a little fettling this makes a sealed cold air feed, with that it defo made a difference, went to local rolling road and said, bar the viper its the best they've seen yet, remember the piperx viper is a tailored kit to the car, this isnt, you either need to cable tie it down or make a bracket, i'm chuffed with it though

So what reducer did you use Martin?

My car is a 1.4 16v already fitted with a K+N panel filter and two cold air feed, but there's a restriction in the top of the original airbox, so I thinK this
can be improved by the RaceX

Do you have a rolling road graph mate?

Thanks

rolling road...nope! i only went in and asked, wasnt paying £30 to see how a 1.2 16v performed!

it was better though...

i used the red reducer, i cant remember the size, when you fit the reducer onto the inlet use some injun oil on it, otherwise you'll wrestle with it all day long.

a K&N induction kit is only £50

The viper kit is expensive because it supposedly does something fancy...

You can get a reduction in throttle response and power by removing any air filter from the car completely!

Remember filters are supposed to do just that - FILTER. It's no good having one that sounds great, looks cool and increases power by 20bhp if it's filtering less than 80%

Much better to buy a £25 panel filter than a £16 induction kit if the induction kit's letting all manner of shit into the engine.

If you're driving on contstuction sites or in a dusty environment then you should consider a high quality foam filter or even going back to paper elements.

Oil the filter with K+N filter oil
Then all th cotton gauze filters should be the same.
And I want a sealed airbox, and not too much noise

So Martin do you oil your filter?
If it is
I love ppl that says things lik "it's nasty for the engine" but doesn't even change the oil and filter for an year

And VW now has a TDI engine that only needs to "Change oil every 30 K miles if our quality oil (and only that one:lol is used
It's good for the Turbo rings and Bores

Exactly why not make ur own version of the viper like im gonna do and as martin C did. All u need to do is get a K&N with a samco hose to put it further from the engine, and get a large diameter alu flexible pipe roughly as wide as the bottom of the filter. attach it to the bottom of the bumper with cable ties or higher up if u want to avoid sucking water up then put the top end of the pipe over the filter and put a jubilee clip round it to seal it and away u go...... a homemade viper and about 5 times cheaper.
Im sure many have this done anyway?

If you oil the filter 95% of all the garbage won't come in
