hi there, im new here and i own a 106 GTI, but dont worry i have no disrespect for any other cars! like some people on some forums. The nova site for example, they are so nova biased they think everything else is rubbish.

Anyway, my mate has a corsa SRI L reg and we always thought it was 16 v until the other day when we looked at parkers and noticed 16 valve was only introduced aug 94 which was M.

Firstly we think its really quick, and has an excellent top end and u wouldnt think its 8 valve, is there any chance at all it could be 16.

Is there any major difference in performance between the two cars in 8 and 16 valve

Thanks a lot

look in the engine bay if it has a plasic cover on it saying ecotec then its a 16v, also the 16v engine seems to fill the engine bay, where the 8v dont as much! performance wise they are closly matched but the 16v is faster no mater what people say about the torque an 8v has,

Secondly difference in power is only 8bhp but dlivery is alot different....

Oh and yeah check under the bonnet, if it looks large (big plastic cover over it'll be the 16v

8v is about 11-11.5
16v is 10.5

8v is slower bottom end, but much more drivable usable power low down in the revs. It runs out of steam top end where as the 16v's power is all in the high revs.

Top speed wise, they both do 112mph.

Both are tunable little engines though.

I recently had been cruising, loads of cars including a 16v sri, mines a 8v sri, the lad kept asking me for a race at the cruise and it was wet, with my tires and the torque low down it would have been no contest, a week later I cort up on the road with this 16v, he had a passenger, as soon as he saw me he dropped him off and we had a race, he had the same mods as me (magnex back box and an induction kit) up to 70mph I lost him completely by about 20 Corsa's length, I had to slow down for traffic so he caught me up after 70mph it was neck a neck up to 110mph, on private roads obveiously, so dont underestimate the 8v, the only way a 16v is quicker is if it has a new inlet manifold and induction ruteing, ie mantzel powerbox!

16v is better at low speeds once the revs get up.
8v as said is smoother but the power fades off up the rpm range.

I suspect the 8v and 16v have similer torque at low revs. the power of the two engines are only 8hp difference thans not much torque difference
