I had a similar problem once. Turned out I was outputting though speakers I didn't have. So I changed it in the audio menu on the ps3. But I'm not sure that'll solve your problem.

I had this problem - it is to do with the settings - iirc it was something to do with having the sound outputed as Bitstream rather than PCM...

bring up the inscreen menu when in the movie think its triangle then av options change it from bitstream to lpcm or vise versa see if that fixes it

or you can change the audio stream from this menu, it may be outputting a format that your receiver can not decode, you can change it to 2 channel or dolby ect see if that fixes it

im going to check the settings on both ps3's to compare them

I had this problem with Bad Company 2, whereby it would play music in the menus, but not the sound effects in the game. It turned out to be a knackered optical lead.

Alot of blurays use DTS sound and if your av decoder cannot support it (like mine) then it will run it in 2.0 stero im afraid..

i need to upgrade
