My friends lap top randomly disconnects from the wireless internet quite often, like from every few mins to an hour or so. All i know is its on Windows XP and the broadband supplyer is Sky. Anything obvious we can try so it works properly?

oh there is no error messages it just disconnects, could it be possible she is just too far from the wireless thingy? she is on the 2rd floor and the router (?) is downstairs on the ground floor at the opposite end of the house. No one else in the house seems to have any issues.

Which router is it? My misses had a Belkin thing - that used to disconnect all the time. I phoned Amazon for a refund which they gave, and they didn't even want the thing sent back

However my misses has also had Sky broadband and never had problems with the router/modem.

It could be that she's too far from it - have you/she tested being right next to the wireless box? First port of call really.

yeah, try that first, if not, try changing the channel on the router, could be intereference.

My parents PC wasn't working for internet, (was local only) even though it was pretty much next to the router, just had to change the channel on the router, and it worked fine

A customer of mine recently had the same wireless disconnection issues on Sky (with a Sky router), in the end I got Sky to send her a replacement router free of charge as her one was duff, the replacement has been working fine since installation IIRC.

If your 'friend' Adam is using a non Sky router they may need to check their router settings are correct for Sky.

Go to http://www.skyuser.co.uk/ for more info.
