i need some help asap please.

ive just rebuilt my top end on my xe and its smoking like a bastard atm. i thought mayb it was just some excess oil that dropped into the cylinders when the head was beign removed but ive taken it for a drive and its still pumping out lots of smoke. especially when reving and accelerating.

also when on tick over it idles abit lumpy then the revs rise up on there own for a second then it drops back down.

heres a couple of vids of the problems

tickover - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fsotHHXjyv0
smoke - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jxgeFNoKGOE

i have a feeling that the smoking is due to the new valve stem seals (ive fitted new ones!) but the stem seals were knacked on my old head and it didnt smoke this much.

all help is needed please!

valves were removed and kept in correct order and refitted in the same ports that came out of. all valves were reground back into the head also. i havent driven it far but it doesnt look to be using any coolant

will show up EXACTLY whats leaking. mine showed up a 3% leakage past the rings, make sure they have a good tester such as a Snap-on one as the cheaper ones are shite.

and make sure its a leakdown test not just a compression test.

a leakdown test is basicly using compressed air to determine cylinder leakage.

plug the compressed air line into the tool, put the other end of the tool into the spark plug apeture. get the cylinder you are testing to TDC on compression stroke so valves are closed, open the valve to 100psi on the 1st gauge and the 2nd gauge reads the amount of leakage from the cylinder as a percentage. you can find the scource of the leak by listening to where the air leaks from.

dipstick = air past piston rings
inside cam cover = air past stem seals
from exhaust = past exhast valve (not seating properly)
from inlet = past inlet valve (not seating properly)

up to 15% is acceptable, 10% is good anything below 5% is optimum for performance.

could get bubbles in the coolant system, that would point to head gasket.
