Engine is out of car so to get crankshaft off I can't use the method of selecting high gear and applying brakes , so how else can I remove the crankshaft ?
Also , when setting the timing belt sprockets etc to there correct positions ,is it ok to turn the sprockets etc to the correct positions as they sit right now , even though I am moving the cams ?
Cheers

Bollocks , that looks like a good bit of work for a bolt !
No hold up just taking time doing it.
Done the head gasket tonight , still need to do timing belt and clutch

Still need to sort out the lot with the alternator belt etc.

Hmm I reckon torque wrench and hammer would do the trick there ...
Set a date to put it in in about 5 weeks time

Jam the flywheel with a prybar or something

i've heard of someone who was having a re-bore shoving a fence post up the bore to a)stop the engine rotating on the floor, and b) jam against the crank to stop that spinning.
don't know if that would damage the bore if it wasn't being -rebored or at least honed.

yes!... everyone gets very worried doing timing belts... it really is so simple...
when you get the belt on and tighen the tensioner turn the crank over 4 times... then aling the arrow on the crank back up with its marker... then check that the cam pulleys have lined up... if they have then your good to go... it really is simple...

if this is a smallblock lump whats the problem... the crank bolts are piss to get out, try a 20xe lower crank bolt... thats hardcore blowtorch, scaffold pole action. I always found on the 1.4's and 1.6's that a sharp action with a 2 foot powerbar works fine
