Fitted an Ashley 4" backbox to my Corsa awhile ago, other day was walking over to my car and noticed the centre section pipe? was hanging low from underneath the car, jacked it up and had a look, it's hanging like hell. Removed the backbox had a play around... fitted the backbox back on, the centre section is still hanging way too low, it keeps knocking the axle now. I can manually lift it and it fits back into place, needs to stay there tho. Any ideas why this has happened and how to resolve?

a mate suggested welding above the back of the backbox, then.. obviously, fitting a bracket or something so the backbox is held up at the rear and the centre pipe will as a result sit higher. slightly drastic and expensive option though?

If the angle of the pipe coming out of the box is wrong then it won't sit right on the factory hangers. The solution is fabricate another mount as your mate suggests, or change the box for one which fits better.

do what i did keep the exsisting mounts on the centre section but get a mate to lift it up and cable tie it real tight that way it will sit up into the tunnel and wont catch on ya axle.and if the cable ties do break then the exsistin rubber mounts are there to stop it from droppin off the car.

But the exhaust has to be mounted on rubber hangers because the engine and exhaust need to be able to rattle about the place....

yeah it does allow movement because the silencer pivots on the ties.i've had no problems with mine as of yet so it should be ok to do.i also got through the mot with it aswell.

Quality bit of engineering
my curvey bit over the rear axel knocks as well... need to lift that up really... probs do it with cable ties... should allow plenty of movement but stop it hanging so low. also the knocking if often caused by the clamp on the back box and centre section being wrong way round (ie bolts stick out and what it everytime you go over a bump)
