My car was running very poorly and broke down last week, to which the RAC man ran an ECU check for the fault code, which vauxhall have confirmed to be the EGR Valve. From what i have read from you guys, the EGR valve sits on top of the exhaust manifold, but flicking through the haynes manual, it says to drain the coolant system and remove the expansion tank as the valve is "at the left-hand end of the cylinder head" I am now kind of confused as the where it is, and what it does. I've ordered a new valve from LMF and am confident enough to carry out the work, but the more i try and understand this system, the more confused i seem to get! Can anyone shed any light on the subject??? It seems to me that this is an unnessacary problem, for an unnessacary piece of equipment that my car doesn't really need!
Many Thanks.

yeh mine cost me £75 + v.a.t. and thats exactly wat mines gonna look like from the picture. Was it fairly simple to fit? I think the major part of the job is because i got a 1.4 16v, and theres inlet pipes to move, and coolant to drain, thats why vaux wanted to charge £300.

dead easy to fit just had to get the pipe off that goes on it, that lost some coolant so no need to drain.Unbolt the bolts fit new gasket to new egr valve, wipe where it mated to engine and bolt on.Took me no more than 15 mins to do.O i forgot to say took of the sensor wire and reconnect it.
