Cheers for the link. I even understood some of it (about 10% I'd say).
So in essence the XOne is built more like a current computer, where as the PS4 is built more specifically as a gaming device, if we boil it down to RAM selection (which, as far as I can gather is the only major hardware difference, so far).
I wonder if the end result will be, that games developed for PC/XOne and ported to PS will run/look differently (worse) in the PS version due to the different architecture of the machines.
This seems to be the case on the current gen, where the PS3 has the hardware advantage, but cross platform games never seem to look as good or run as well on the PS3 as on the 360.

Well the X1 and PS4 both apparently share the same X86 architecture underpinnings with both using the AMD Jaguar (also rumours the X1 is a Fusion chip rather than Jaguar) APU (CPU and GPU on the same die) with the GPU (X1 equivalent to a 7790; PS4 a 7850/77M) and RAM (+ peripherals) differing between the consoles.
If this is all true then there shouldn't be a lot in it between the two consoles but it depends who gets the most out of it.
And that was the primary issue with the PS3. As you say, it had the raw processing power (hence why people clustered them for parallel processing) but it was apparently a dog to develop for and therefore no one really made full use of the hardware.
Edit - Worth a read on the X1 memory outlay - http://www.vgleaks.com/durango-memory-system-overview/

I also know loads of people who have kids with an xbox in the bedroom as well as in the lounge, meaning they will essentially have to buy the game twice.
I don't understand how a pre-requisite of a games console can be that you have an internet connection
I may have got the wrong end of the stick here but surely the game would be tied to your account, so you could use it on any Xbox as long as you can sign in? So you could still take games to your mate's house and play them on his Xbox.

Well then he's a pikey who needs to move into the modern world, I mean how likely is it that your mate won't have internet?

I have Internet , but my ps3 hardly ever picks the signal up if I move it to bedroom .Does it need an Internet connection all the time or just to install a game? What about the people who want it in their cars ?

Quite an interesting technical breakdown here:
http://www.anandtech.com/show/6972/xbox-one-hardware-compared-to-playstation-4
Last line of this paragraph pretty much underlines my thoughts and fears:
"The Xbox One and PS4 architectures are quite similar, Sony just has more hardware under the hood. We’ll have to wait and see how this hardware delta gets exposed in games over time, but the gap is definitely there.
The funny thing about game consoles is that it’s usually the lowest common denominator that determines the bulk of the experience across all platforms."
