14.11

bad news today. think the oil pump has given up the ghost. engine is tappy as , oil light is on and oil pressure gauge reads 0. the gauge has been slow to read the pressure for the last week or so and now i know why.

hopefully it hasnt done any damage. gonna have to strip it all down this weekend to see if theres any damage. might aswell do the rings again while im here. expensive rebuild.

25/11
so the cars been taken down to Haynes engineering for new oil pump and rings. got a call from them yesterday saying that the rings i put it a couple of thousand miles ago were completely ruined due to over honing of the bores.
luckily they should be able to sort it all out and should get it back next week some time

been focusing on the track car lately so im in no real rush to get it back.

Yeah I did. Obviously didn't move it up and down quick enough and it must have scored the bores too much

I didn't mean anything bad by that comment just looking at the tool you wouldn't think it would take that much away

i know! how could you over bore it? fuck knows mate but he said it was way too much! you have to move it up and down as quick as its going round and round. needs to be 120 degree crosshatches, think thats where we went wrong. by not going up and down quick enough we ended up with like 30 degree and over scoring

Fuck knows my boss just says to make sure you don't stop mid cycle or in one spot for too long he uses duck oil too whilst honing too I really hope I don't fuck up got to check the ovality of the bores yet, they have a slight step at the top of the bores I'm hoping a rehone is all it needs.. If not maybe bore it out to 2.1

Yeah you aren't supposed to stop until the machine is back out , keeping a constant speed etc. I guess we just didn't move it fast enough up and down the bores

28/10

Got the call from the garage saying its all fixed. Luckily the oil pump hadnt gone, the thing was all clogged up with crap! Also found out while it was still smoking after recon head and rings. Turns out we didn't hone it correctly and the rings were scratching along the bores and had ruined a set of rings in 1000 miles! Got them to rehone the scratches out. This is how it should have looked :

Ours were full of scratches compared to this and the rings were catching along the scratches!

Happy it's all fixed now ready for the head to be put back on, cheaper than I though aswell at £600, yes that's £600!

1/12

and back to the usual not working / running scenario i seem to always been in. put the head back on, wired up etc.. now it doesn't want to start and when it does it wont hold any revs and just dies again. its as if it has fuel starvation, but dont see how it can be really, it must have something to do with the wiring. all sensors looked to be plugged in and everything so im not sure what up at the moment. cant really be bothered to look either, so fed up with the car it can just sit on the drive. Also literally sounds like a tank ( nut missing off exhaust manifold at end so hopefully thats why it sounds like that).

to top things off the other cars got a problem with its oil pump now so thats 2 corsa's broken!
