I need to create a basic site for a small start-up company (no portfolios in sight here  )
It'll have no more than 8 pages, and there probably won't be too much traffic going to it.
No downloading from the site...it'll just be for information on the business.
Where to go for space and a domain please? 
A cheap but as reliable as possible

Vidahost tech support is instant, 24/7 and very friendly.
Vidahost and tsohost are essentially identical companies, both owned by Sed De Lemos and doing very well.
