Ordered a Sandisk 120GB SSD

Think I am going to build a new machine utilizing my new SSd, current HDD and Disk Drive. Going to get a quad core processor and 8gb of ram min. Smallest case i can get and some Bose desktop 2.1 speakers.

I just got a laptop with a Core i7 (I7-3667U) 2.0ghz 2-core processor, 8gb 1600mhz DDR3L SDRAM and a Samsung 830 256Gb SSD which writes at 364MB/sec, reads at 461MB/sec.

It is insanely fast.

If you're in the market for some nice computer speakers, audition the Bowers and Wilkins MM-1:

http://www.bowers-wilkins.co.uk/Speakers/iPod-and-Computer-Speakers/MM-1/overview.html

I had the Bose Companion 5 for a while and the B&Ws sound an awful lot better in my opinion (but this is subjective - a lot of people love the Bose "sound").

That's a 6Gb(it)/s theoretical maximum using Sata 3 ports; but you should still see some decent read/write speeds all the same

But good stuff; keep us posted

Just ordered a round SATA 3 cable, and Kingston mount rails for 2.5-3.5" for £8 delivered.

ALso deleted lots of crap of the PC, defragged and cleaned up the start ups. System is running decent. So in theory this SSD job should blow this out of the water

And all for sub £70. THANKS!!!

Installed the drive physically in my tower, fits perfectly.

However I cant find my Windows copy or any of my driver disks that are all in the same box somewhere in my garage,

So project is on hold currently

If using Win7, then majority of the drivers will come with the OS. Failing that, download them off the manufacturers website.
Similarly just nab a copy of Win7 that matches your license.

Update, finally got it installed

Power cables from the HD and DVD drive where 2mm too short so had to go to Maplins for an extension, installed neatly with just one half of the 3.5" adapter. Secure, neat and has space/air. So very happy with it

Adiohead sorted me out a Win7 disc, family friend has a neat little programme to get your product key from the PC. So used the guide on techtips on YouTube, was helpful. Got stuck on Sata ports not being enabled but Neo sorted that

So looks like so:

Timed it to 1min 11secobds from power button being pressed to being 100% desktop loaded and ready to use!

Sounds long but it's fucking lightning quick. Considering this is an old Dell machine and cost me £65 to make this good.

Can still boot the other drive if I want so completely switchable.

Thanks for everyone's help
