I've not come accross this until putting in an SBS 2008 server.

When i'm downloading large files and therefore leaving the workstation on for some time, my PC seems to loose internet connection when the monitor goes off.

Using ethernet rather than wireless.

Sleep mode is switched off and have the power settings to just turn off the monitor.

Anyone got any thoughts on this as i'm confussed.com

Is there a separate setting in the registry that turns off the ethernet card after X amount of time? Strange if so though as I thought that usually only happens on laptops!

I've not googled anything as of yet. I'm thinking it could be something on SBS doing it.

You can change the wireless settings in the power management but there is no option for ethernet.

Doing this on Vista and Windows 7 RTM. It's really weird!

I have a monitor connected to my laptop, it's funny yesterday I left it on and the screen went into power saving mode when I wasn't using it, and when I got back it had to reconnect to the router (ethernet connection from the laptop also).

Andrew I feel you are spreading computer flu over the Internet!

Found out what it is. Within Device Manager > Ethernet Adaper, there's an option for System Idle Time which was Enabled.

Not come accross that before.

Cheers for the heads up on that Android, I'll have to check those settings on my system too.
