I am a joiner to trade and when I fit kitchens I pretty much always plumb the sink in , but after countless ones I have done Ive hit a problem with the latest one.

The problem is - Waste water is coming up through the sink when the washing machine or dishwasher are on, and the sink takes a while to drain. Now here is why I think this is happening ...

In the old kitchen the washing machine waste and dishwasher waste went into a stand pipe , therefore the waste system was vented ?

However , when I installed the sink and plumbed in the waste , I did so using two outlets for the two machines , leading into a p trap then into the waste going under the floor - with my new setup being unvented ?

If I am correct, how can I resolve the prolem? I have heard of air admittance valves but am unsure of how they work , or where i would fit it ?

Cheers

I think the problem then lies with what happenes with the waste when it goes under the floor, where does it go and how long is the run and were does it terminate ie soil stack or grid/gully outside

sounds like it is either blocked or its not got a continous fall, one sink and 2 appliances wont need to be vented, have you used 1.5inch waste pipe?

Ive used 40mm waste , but theres never been a problem with the sink before so there shouldnt be now ?

The only change is the fact the wastes used to run into a stack pipe

Totally stuck with this now

Checked the run of the pipes - spot on.

Tried a durgo valve.

Taken it all apart to look for blockages - nothing !

This wasnt a problem before the new kitchen was fitted. Its driving me mental.

from reading my plumbing notes all i can figure is that ur causing a 'positive pressure zone' because it isn't vented anymore. As the waste water falls from the appliances its causing a vacuum between the waste water and trap and therefore pushing the water from the trap out into the sink.
