I've always found they're a few hundred pounds more than the competition and not as well specced for the money.

we have one, it's pretty good, a bit slow when you first turn it on though (could be due to how many programs we have on it though).

although i spilt a pint of milk on it and it completely fucked it covered under insurance though so was alright.

i would get a cheaper version though e.g. dell or something with a better spec, sony always seems to be higher priced as you are paying for the name.

Plus they come with sooooo much shite software which just slows it down. You have to spend the first 3 hours of pwing it taking it all off

I don't like them, had a few to fix with the latest one having a bust DVD drive laser out of warranty. Easy enough you'd think to get a replacement?. No, Sony in their wisdom fitted an odd sized height drive that seemed to be around £200 to replace. I got one for a m8 from the US for £80 delivered.

I was looking at Sonys and in the end bought a Dell. Specced it up how I wanted and was around £700 cheaper than an equivelant Sony!

Dell, Toshiba, Packard

Look on Dells website and check PC Worlds in case they have offers on.

we bought our two MDs a sony vaio (top spec, costing around £1200), they have been absolutly brilliant laptops and id buy them the same in a heart beat.

As people mentioned, most OEM manufactuers do load plenty of their own software, 10 mins uninstalling makes a big difference.

They are no different to dell, hp and the likes.

cracking piece of kit imo. good build quality and neat little features like built in memory stick slot which is well handy when you got sony camera and psp

I liked the bluetooth mouse, doesnt require any usb sticks or anything, just automatically setup with the laptop.

really nice looking laptops, good screen, specs are reasonable - although a friend of mine just had to get the hard drive replaced on warranty as it failed whilst watching a DVD. Sony also replied to him with an apologetic letter and a free cleaning cloth

yeah thats quite tidy price. you can get cheaper if you can live without things such as 17" display (go for 15.4" instead) and not have built in webcam
would be able to get a better processor then too

edit: heres mine --> Linky!

if you dont need it for games then you can save a shitload by having onboard graphics
