was it powder coating that ruined someones engine? i want mine to go white, best way to achieve finsh?

It was sandblasting and painting the inside which you should try to avoid.

acid dipped then either painted or powdercoated on the outside

powder coating is fine just instruct the company to use cevlar tape on the inside of the cover to sotp the powder coating process to adear to the inside of the cover
