Author filter on other side of engine

a friend of mine recently heard that if u move the air filter to the other side of the engine bay, making all the pipework considerably shorter, you gain about 7-8bhp?? has anybody else heard this or even done it???

search for a post by davea, he did it on a customers car, and got some gains

not noticed much difference other than the roar wen you boot it
