does the sandwich plate fit the x14xe and does it have a thermostat built in? because i think all modern vauxhalls have m18 oil filters? correct me if mistaken.

I don't think they do. The filter on the XE seemed a lot bigger than my 1.6 one.

mmm because mocal do vauxhall sandwich plates i thought for all engines but the one kind fits all or something, i may be wrong

You can buy a kit off of eBay. They all seem to use the same sandwich plate so have a look on there.

the universal ones say it will fit all japanese cars, but says vauxhall in the heading....weird

If it helps the 1.4, 1.6 use the same filter as the 2.0 16v xe, so in theory it should fit.

if they use the same filter..

all you'll need is the extended oil filter screw then
