When i rev it from the accelerator, the revs stay up a bit when i take my foot off, i assume this is because the cable needs to wear in?? Does it need lubing or something? Its definitely the right cable.

Iv read that its adjustable but seems to be already adjusted as much as possible. If i rev it using the throttle body it still keeps the revs high when i let go, until i push the throttle body down a bit it then idles how it should. So basically the cables too tight, how do i make it looser or will it wear in?

Found this doing a search
"not really advised, but when your parked in your drive, rev the engine a few times & see if the revs drop, if they don't, put your foot UNDER the accelerator cable & pull it towards you gently, see if the revs drop"

"happened to me a while ago, just a case of some WD40 on the throttle & acccelerator cable thingies on engine (had a few here so thingies is all i can think of)"

But its a brand new cable

take the throttle cable off the trottle body and then rev the engine without it connected.

if the revs stick and dont drop straight away then it may not be the throttle cable but a sooty Idle Controll Valve.

Did that before i put the cable on. Iv sorted it now, think where it was new it needed to wear in a bit, just took it for a thrashing and squashed the spring on the pedal a bit now its perfect.

Cheers anyway mate

No doubt its the spring clip on the cable that was holding the throttle open.....
You adjust it till it has a slightly bit of play.
