Hi,

Today all of a sudden my brakes seems to have disappeared, I have next to no brakes. When I put my foot down, there is no resistance and the car very slowly comes to a stop.

When this happened I went straight for Halfords for Brake fluid (my handbrake light is constantly on) so I figured I might be low. The fluid level was fine but I topped it up to the very top anyway.

I'm home now, but I need to know what could cause this? One minute it's fine and when I next get in my car (~1hr later) it's not.

I need some suggestions please!

Thanks,
Steven

The fluid level is fine; I check it before I topped it up and after. It's nearly overflowing it's so full now.

I wasn't sure what that was, so I googled it: http://www.kfz-tech.de/Engl/Bremskraftverst.htm it would explain the lack of resistance, but how would I find out if that's causing the problem?>

with the ignition off, does the brake pedal get really firm after pressing it a few times?

Nope the resistance doesn't change. It's always really easy to push down. I went out and pressed it 30 or so times and it didn't get any firmer.

How expensive do you think it would be to get it replaced? It's not really safe to drive, is it?

Thanks for all the info mate, I can't find anything on autovaux. If anyone else can give me a estimated price, that would be great.

I had to take it a drive and I noticed the handbrake light has went off! At least something good has came out of it.

Good news! My Dad and I bled the brakes (only did the drives side), everything seems to be working fine now!
